Have questions or concerns? You can contact me in two ways: By phone: (215) 529-2329 By email: gferry@qcsd.org Throughout the school year your child will be exposed to a variety of reading experiences. The theme throughout the fall will be "friendship". The students will participate in two literature circles revolving around this theme. Wrtiting during the fall will involve some poetry and some informative writing using both instructions and and cause/effect type responses to reading.
During the winter months our reading theme will switch to "survival". Also during this time a major writing piece will be tackled. The writing piece will be a persuasive essay based upon research. For this paper, the students will tackle a problem and attempt to provide a viable solution, backing up their ideas with research.
In the spring our reading theme moves to "imagination". During this time novels and stories are read that have a touch of fantasy and/or science fiction as part of their plots. The major writing piece during this theme is a short story. The students get the chance to use their own imaginations to weave a story.
As these themes are followed throughout the year spelling and grammar are a part of each day. Warm-ups are done to start each class to help the students expand their vocabulary, improve their spelling, and continue to sharpen and improve their grammar skills.
