Dr. William Harner
Dr. William E. Harner completed his third year as Superintendent of Quakertown Community School District in 2016. He previously served as Principal of both Gainesville Middle School in Georgia and Hilton Head High School in South Carolina, and as Superintendent of Greenville County Schools, SC and Cumberland Valley School District in Pennsylvania, and Acting Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
As a transformational leader, Dr. Harner has been recognized as the National Administrator of the Year by the American Association for School Librarians (2004) and National Association for Gifted Children (2009).
Prior to entering public education 18 years ago, he served on active duty in the US Army for 20 years. Prior to retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1998, his service highlights included three years on the staff and faculty at West Point, including a year as Aide de Camp to the Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy. He also served as Chief of the Policy & Strategy Branch, US Forces Korea in Seoul, and as an Infantry Battalion Commander at Ft Jackson, SC. Dr Harner holds Masters Degrees in Educational Leadership & Supervision and Human Resources, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Harner graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1978 with a degree in Engineering. Dr Harner has been married for 33 years. They have two children currently serving in the US Army.
