Additional Professional Learning

Participants in New Teacher Academy (NTA) can also participate in the following learning activities for their own professional development and/or to enrich the professional development of their colleagues.

Plan and Implement Building or District Wide Professional Development
Plan and implement a professional development opportunity at the building level and/or for district wide audience. The research and planning will be the bulk of this opportunity. Develop a pd plan that aligns and models best practices of instruction.

Develop Useful Resources for colleagues
Sometimes we find resources such as supplemental texts, digital resources, etc that require more teacher and/or kid friendly"documents". Consider designing these resources for use by colleagues and/or students.

Conduct a Book Study and/or develop a Study Guide for the book
Invite a peer group to read a book together. Develop focus questions to discuss and reflect upon. Another option is to develop a study guide for colleagues who read the book in the future to use.

Develop a self paced Canvas Course to be placed in the QCSD PD Hub
Develop a course for teachers to learn more about something you are passionate about. Include links to websites, readings, video clips, etc that will help to deepen your colleagues understanding of teaching and learning. A final reflection on the process should be prepared at the end of the year. .

Lead Data team meetings, collaboration meetings, team meetings, and/or department meetings
Take on a leadership role in your grade level, department, and/or school. Record your activity using a Learning Log and have it signed off on by a building or district administrator regularly. A final reflection on the process should be prepared at the end of the year. NOTE: You may not be paid a stipend for a leadership position and use the hours for NTA.

Actively Support Building Initiative with Building Principal
Actively support a building initiative or goal. Reach out to your building principal to see how you can support the processes. Record your activity using a Learning Log and have your building principal sign off on it regularly. A final reflection on the process should be prepared at the end of the year. .NOTE: You may not be paid a stipend for a position and use the hours for NTA.

Actively mentor a New Teacher in Year 1 in your building
Meet monthly to openly discuss successes and challenges. Record the meetings on a Learning Log and have New Teachers sign off on it. A final reflection on the mentoring process should be prepared at the end of the year on your own learning through mentorship.
