Throughout the school year your child will be exposed to a variety of reading and writing experiences. We will be using the SpringBoard program, created by the College Board,  to expose students to valuable and authentic writing. Throughout the year we remain focused on the theme of "choice."  Following the analysis of different genres, the students then write their own pieces.   We begin the year with personal narratives followed by advertising analysis, a letter to the editor, monologues, literary analysis of the novel Tangerine, a research presentation, and finally, myths.

Grammar is often a part of each lesson.  We practice it a little bit each day and then apply that knowledge to the writing pieces.

Independent reading is also a huge focus.  Students are expected to have a novel with them at all times.  There are times throughout the year when several titles will be shared with them and they will be expected to select one of the novels presented as their independent reading book.
