Assistant Superintendent of Quakertown schools captures state honor

Dr. Lisa Hoffman of the Quakertown Community School District has won the Outstanding Curriculum Development Award for her significant contribution in the area of curriculum development.

The honor is presented annually by the Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

"I am honored to receive this award," Dr. Hoffman said. "I am fortunate to have the support of an incredibly talented team. I am proud of the work we have done over the last few years to bring high quality, rigorous, student-centered learning experiences to the students of QCSD."

Dr. Hoffman, the district's Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, was nominated for the award by QCSD Superintendent Dr. Bill Harner.

"Dr. Hoffman is incredibly deserving of this award and honor," Dr. Harner said. "Her transformational leadership work in curriculum development has dramatically increased the college and readiness for thousands of our students."

Over the past three years, Dr. Hoffman redesigned and re-staffed the Office for Teaching and Learning, developed a six-year curriculum cycle, got teachers from across the district involved in curriculum development and decision-making, and advised the Superintendent as an "invaluable" member of his cabinet.

In his nomination letter, Dr. Harner described Dr. Hoffman as the finest expert in curriculum development he has known. "Her keen intellect and sense of team play, tireless energy, and ability to fill any instructional leadership vacuum made her invaluable to Quakertown," he wrote.

In a letter to the PASCD, School Board President Paul Stepanoff offered his "highest possible recommendation" to Dr. Hoffman.

"The Board's confidence in Dr. Hoffman has grown due to her work in leading the Education/Curriculum Committee and her presentations to the Board," Stepanoff wrote. "The district has achieved increased success due in part to Dr. Hoffman's leadership and contribution to the curriculum department."

Dr. Hoffman is scheduled to receive her award Nov. 12 in Harrisburg at the 67th Annual PASCD Conference.

"On behalf of the PASCD Executive Board and membership, we commend your efforts in curriculum and

congratulate you on this achievement," stated Barbara E. Davis, PASCD President-Elect and Awards Chair, in her letter to Dr. Hoffman.
