About Our School

Meet The Principal

Greetings!

My name is Scott Godshalk, and I have the pleasure of serving as principal here at Neidig Elementary School.  The 2024 - 2025 school year is my 10th year as Neidig's principal.  Prior to my time at Neidig, I served as the principal at another QCSD school, Tohickon Valley Elementary, for 10 years.  Prior to my principalships, I served as an assistant principal in the Central Bucks School district, and I was a teacher in the Upper Perkiomen School District.  I have lived in Quakertown for 20 years, and both of my daughters are proud QCSD graduates.

At Neidig Elementary School, our motto is - Building a community of leaders who inspire Greatness!  At Neidig, I am inspired by the hard work, dedication, and perseverance I see each day from the students and from our teaching team.  We work hard each day be respectful, responsible, and safe.

Our History

On April 4, 1957, an architectural firm was hired to begin plans for an elementary school to be built at the corner of Forest Avenue and Penrose Street. The preliminary plans were approved on July 11, 1957. The Quakertown School Board chose the name of the new school on September 5, 1957. The Joseph S. Neidig School was named after Mr. Neidig, who was supervising Principal of the entire school district. The Free Press called Mr. Neidig "the community's foremost citizen, educator, church layman, and civic leader." On October 17, 1957, the school board unanimously accepted the final plans for the new elementary school.

About Joseph S. Neidig Elementary School

The cornerstone laying for the new building occurred on June 19, 1958. Included within the cornerstone was a Bible, a list of school directors, a copy of the Free Press, a copy of the resolution for the death of Joseph S. Neidig, and a list of local elementary school teachers. Ironically, Mr. Neidig did not see the completion of the school that was named for him. Sadly, he passed away on April 5, 1958.

Construction on the school continued during 1958 and 1959. Joseph S. Neidig Elementary School was finally dedicated in March of 1959.

Thousands of students have walked the halls of Neidig and received not only a great education but the support and encouragement of many wonderful teachers and staff.

In Memoriam

The Joseph S. Neidig Elementary School was planned as a tribute, not as a memorial to Mr. Neidig for his arduous efforts in promoting good educational opportunities for the youth of the community. In the early stages of construction, no one could foresee that Mr. Neidig would not be privileged to participate in the completion of the building or direct the educational program to be carried on within it.

Mr. Neidig devoted many hours in the planning of this building in order that its physical features would provide the best in educational facilities. His devotion to duty will always be an inspiration to those who knew him well.

Mr. Neidig gave the best years of his life to the schools in this area. It is the desire of those who direct the educational activities of the children in this building to continue the work started by him and make available to them the best educational program possible.

The building is a memorial and a tribute to Joseph S. Neidig, who devoted his life to promote and improve education in our community. It is now for others to carry on the fine work which he began and to fulfill his dreams for further improvements.
