Congratulations to Mr. Nelson and his African American Literature students on receiving a $1,000 grant from the Quakertown Community Education Foundation!

This grant will allow Mr. Nelson and his students to experience a live performance of Amiri Baraka's The Dutchman, an exceptional experiential learning opportunity that will immerse students in the revolutionary spirit of the Black Arts Movement.

Aligned with QCHS's Dual Enrollment curriculum, this live performance at Mill Hill Playhouse in Trenton, NJ, will complement students' study of Larry Neal’s seminal essay and Amiri Baraka’s influential work. After the performance - the director and cast will offered a talk-back session with the audience, allowing students to connect literary theory to lived artistic expression. This is experience is sure to deepen their understanding of how Black art has historically served as a vehicle for social change, cultural identity, and political consciousness.

The QCEF is proud to support this educational experience that goes beyond the classroom and strengthens students' critical thinking, cultural awareness, and engagement with African American literary traditions. We hope this impactful and memorable experience inspires student interest in African American literature and theater and introduces them to professional arts and potential career pathways.

Congratulations, Mr. Nelson!
