Graduates throwing their caps into the air

On Monday, June 8, Quakertown Community High School celebrated the Class of 2026 during its commencement ceremony at Alumni Field. With the help of our local police and fire department, a portion of Park Avenue was closed to welcome administrators, teachers, and students for their iconic two-block walk from the High School to the stadium. Family members and friends cheered as students processed into Alumni Field and took their seats for this momentous occasion.

Quakertown Community High School Principal Dr. van’t Hoenderdaal welcomed the crowd and invited students Everett Dallison, Lucas Gerganus, Andrew Hernandez, and Kyler Roesener to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. These brave young men were the perfect fit to lead the Pledge, as each has committed to serving their country following graduation. Everett and Andrew will be joining the Navy, Lucas will be joining the Army, and Kyler will be joining the Coast Guard. Their dedication to public service and willingness to answer the call of duty embody the values of leadership and citizenship—both shining characteristics of a Panther graduate.

The crowd was then treated to two outstanding musical performances from the Quakertown Community High School band and choir. Under the direction of Dr. Rachael Urquhart, the band performed a beautiful rendition of our national anthem. The choir, directed by Ms. Erin Camburn, followed with two moving performances of Flight Song by Kim Andre Arnesen and Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Greenday.

During his commencement address, Dr. van’t Hoenderdaal encouraged graduates to reflect on those who have inspired them over the past four years. Who has helped them, motivated them, and pushed them forward? He spoke about how those drivers can become an internal source of strength to persevere when challenges arise. While many graduates thought of their parents, teachers, coaches, or friends, Dr. van’t Hoenderdaal reminded them that they too have the power to inspire others. He challenged them to choose to be a source of inspiration to those around them and to make a positive impact on the world. It was a fitting message to conclude his remarks and welcome the evening’s student speakers: Anna Greenday, Maeve Henry, Breckon LaBonge, and Wilson Martinez.

Wilson Martinez gives his speech at the podium

Mr. Martinez opened his remarks with joy and pride, welcoming our community and expressing a deep appreciation for his Hispanic roots. Taking a moment to pause on the significance of the occasion, he acknowledged classmates, families, teachers, and friends, as well as the first responders and community members in attendance, with sincere gratitude for their support in reaching this milestone. He reminded graduates to recognize those who helped guide their journey and to carry forward a spirit of appreciation for those who helped pave the way. He emphasized the importance of compassion, community, and loving one’s neighbor. He closed by reminding graduates to face the future with courage, faith, and confidence, trusting that they are not alone as they begin this next exciting chapter of their lives.

Anna Greenday gives his speech at the podium

Ms. Greenday reminded her fellow graduates that while today’s world may be uncertain, it is our strong mindset that determines how we respond. Her remarks encouraged graduates to approach life’s difficulties with resilience, confidence, and compassion. The strength to overcome with integrity lies within us all.

Maeve Henry gives his speech at the podium

Ms. Henry reflected on the shared experiences of the Class of 2026. She recalled arriving as an uncertain freshman and the growth they have achieved since then. Over their time at QCHS, they have grown into confident young adults while embracing the values of resilience, ownership, community, and kindness. She challenged her fellow graduates to carry those values forward, whether pursuing college, the trades, the military, or entering the workforce, and to strive to become the best version of themselves. She closed with the reminder that no matter where life takes them, they are always part of the Quakertown Panther Family: “Once a Panther, Always a Panther.”

Breckon LaBonge gives his speech at the podium

To conclude the student speeches, Mr. LaBonge also spoke of the uncertainty of the future after high school. He emphasized that success is not measured by having all the answers, but rather, having the ability to transform, adapt, and give one’s full effort. He encouraged graduates to have the bravery to embrace the unknown and reminded them that to go forward with purpose, because to not act on this opportunity is the only true mistake.

Mr. O'Donnell addresses the crowd

The next speaker to express their congratulations to the Class of 2026 was Quakertown Community School Board President Mr. David O’Donnell. Mr. O’Donnell reflected on the challenges our graduates faced and praised the class for refusing to let that define them. Instead, they persevered and supported one another while moving forward despite uncertainty. In honor of classmates, mentors, and loved ones who were no longer with them, Mr. O’Donnell led the audience in a meaningful moment of silence. He reminded students that the strength they developed through adversity will continue to guide them as they pursue their futures and closed by boldly encouraging them to embrace their potential and trust their ability to make a positive impact on the world.

 Dr. Hoffman addresses the crowd

The final speaker of the evening was Interim Superintendent Dr. Lisa Hoffman. While recognizing the Class of 2026’s academic achievements and experiences, she emphasized the long-standing motto of the Quakertown Community School District, “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve.” Dr. Hoffman emphasized that while personal success is important, true fulfillment comes from living a life grounded in character, integrity, and service to others. She encouraged graduates to move forward with purpose and to strive to make a positive difference in the lives of those around them. That’s the true measure of one’s success. She concluded by expressing her confidence in the Class of 2026 and her excitement for what they’ll accomplish in the years ahead.

Principal Dr. van’t Hoenderdaal certified that the students had successfully completed all state and district graduation requirements.

And then came the moment every graduate had been waiting for – the official presentation of the Class of 2026. Principal Dr. van’t Hoenderdaal certified that the students had successfully completed all state and district graduation requirements, including their approved course of study and Pennsylvania graduation standards. Dr. Hoffman then officially accepted the class and presented it to the school board president, Mr. O’Donnell. On behalf of the Quakertown Community School Board, Mr. O’Donnell officially conferred all diplomas and members of the Class of 2026 the status of graduates of the Quakertown Community High School. Following his declaration, graduates began proudly ascending the stage to receive their diplomas.

After the final diploma was awarded, graduates celebrated one last time with a traditional turning of the tassels and tossing of their caps into the sky. But the evening wasn’t over yet. Graduates and their families were surprised to have a custom drone show featuring congratulatory messages and Panther pride illuminated above Alumni Field.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! As you embark on your next chapter, go forward with confidence, purpose, and the drive to make a difference. We can’t wait to see all you accomplish.
