If you find yourself in Doylestown, make a stop at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit. There, on the first floor, you'll find an extraordinary art exhibit of hand-painted skateboard decks created by Ms. Amy Migliore, an artist and digital design teacher at Quakertown Community High School.
Inspired by everyday objects, the stories behind them, and the stories they create for their owners, each skateboard is meticulously crafted to tell a story. And the canvas is intentional. Skateboards represent “movement, creativity, resilience, boldness, and freedom.”
“Across this collection, the paintings become a visual mixtape. Some boards work like memory maps, bringing together familiar objects, places, foods, and cultural references that instantly transport us to a particular time and place. Others draw from popular culture, celebrating the visual elements of everyday life through entertainment, fashion, and ordinary objects. Still others move toward abstraction, using drips, patterns, gesture, and raw energy to capture the parts of experience that are harder to explain—the emotions, sounds, rhythms, and patterns of an era."
