Support Groups

Adoption Support Group: This group is designed for adoptees and their families. Support is offered for search and reunion mediation, adoption focused family counseling, parenting foster and adopted children, intimate relationships, and traumatized children. Group meets once a month at the Warrington Wegmans. Group typically meets on the first Tuesday every month, but can vary. For more information, please contact Robert Hafetz at [email protected]

Cancer Support Group: Weekly support groups exist for adults and children who have cancer and occur in Allentown. There is also a martial arts group for children with cancer. There are monthly family friendly activities for families who are dealing with cancer. These monthly activities vary and have included activities like watching movies and making Holiday gifts. Childbirth and Parenting Preparation: This group focuses on motherhood, pain management, labor and delivery preparation, and infant care for teens and young adults who are expecting a newborn. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. from 9/22/15 through 12/8/15. Classes are free of charge and are held at Grand View Hospital which is located at 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family to Family Program: Families, partners, friends, and significant others of adults living with a mental illness are invited to participate in a free, twelve session, educational program. These courses are designed to help all family members understand and support their loved one living with a mental illness. Courses in Doylestown will begin Wednesday evening, March 9, 2016. Connection Group: This support group is for adults with mental illness, regardless of diagnosis. Group is held the first and third Tuesday of the month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Voice and Vision Office which is located at 600 Louis Drive, Suite 106, Warminster, PA 18974.

MY LIFE TOO- Parent Supporters Group: A group providing support, education and resources for parents, caregivers and other adult supporters of youth who have experience with mental health, substance abuse, foster care or juvenile justice issues; and who want to use their experience to help improve the systems that serve youth in Pennsylvania.This is a meeting for adults who have youth involved with MyLife BUCKS, caregivers of children ages 13-23 with multi-system involvement and will be scheduled concurrently with the MyLife meetings. MY LIFE (Magellan Youth Leaders Inspiring Future Empowerment): This group is made up of youth between the ages of 13 and 23 who have experience with mental health, substance abuse, juvenile justice and foster care-related issues. Through regular meetings, special events and local and national workshops, presentations and performances, the group focuses on important issues affecting youth. Heads on Straight Brain Injury Support Group: Support group for parents of children with brain injuries. Group meets the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30-8 p.m. at St. Mary's Rehabilitation Center which is located at 1208 Newton-Langhorne Rd. Langhorne, PA 19047. Nicotine Anonymous: Offers support groups for those who would like to stop smoking. Support groups can occur through support groups online or in person. There are also phone support meetings. For more information, please contact http://nicotine-anonymous.org/

Parent to Parent of Pennsylvania: This group matches parents, foster parents, adoptive parents, and caregivers of children and adults with special needs on a one-to-one basis. This group also has support groups available. For more information, please call 888-727-2706 or visit their website at www.parenttoparent.org

Parent Support Group: This group provides parenting education and support on a weekly basis. Topics covered include discipline of children, child development, and stress reduction as well as various other topics. Snacks and childcare are provided during meetings. Meeting occur every Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at Bucks County Family Center which is located at 2 Canal's End Rd. Suite 201G Bristol, PA. Peer to Peer Program: Adults with mental health challenges are invited to participate in a free, ten session course in an educational setting focused on recovery that offers respect, understanding, encouragement, and hope. This course is free and confidential, and is held once a week for two hours. Peer Mentors teaching the class are living in recovery themselves. S.A.F.E.: Supportive Alliance for Family Empowerment offers counseling to address abusive and violent behaviors that the child or family member has experienced. Men's and women's groups are offered as well as individual and family sessions. For more information, please call 215-750-7220.

Sibling Support Group: Group is for youth between the ages of 8 to 12 who are siblings of individuals with special needs to find peer support and build relationships in a welcoming and safe environment. This group meets the second Friday of every month from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at 882 Jacksonville Rd. Suite 203 Ivyland, PA 18974. If you are interested in signing up your youth or would like more information, please contact Michaela Smith at 1-888-442-1590 ext. 23 or [email protected]. There is no cost for group, however participants will be asked to bring enough money to cover the cost for events and activities.

Social Skills Opportunities Group: Group is for youth aged 6 through 17 who experience challenges with relating to peers in social settings. Goals of group are to build on existing social skills, establish and experience positive relationships with other youth, and to transfer these skills to other environments including home, hobbies, or the community. Groups are created throughout the year and run for 4 week cycles. However, a minimal activity fee may apply. Scholarships may be available based on need.

Together as Adoptive Parents, Inc.: The goals of TAP are to provide a social network with activities, advocate for adoptive and foster families, and to maintain a post adoption website and resource directory. Young Parent Group: This is a fun monthly group for young moms and dads to get together, ask questions, and shared ideas. Groups are offered at the following locations on a monthly basis:

Mentoring Programs:

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Bucks County: This program matches a child with a mentor. The mentor develops a meaningful relationship with the child and helps work on the child's social and leadership skills. For more information, please call (215) 343-8260 or visit www.bbbsbc.org

Family Friends Project: This program matches a child with a volunteer who can mentor the child. The volunteer helps to resist family stress and isolation, increases youth self esteem, and promotes healthy relationships. Volunteers visit with the child on a weekly basis. Kids in Care Project: This program is designed for children who are currently in residential treatment facilities. An adult volunteer mentors the child and visits with the child on a weekly basis. For more information on this program, please contact Dawn Hoopes at 1-800-770-4822 ext. 1442.

Plant a Seed Inspire a Dream Foundation: This agency connects children from age 10 to 18 to pursue their passions and interests in athletic, artistic, musical, and creative activities led by positive role models. This program is available to low-income households and is located in Yardley, PA. This agency hopes to make a significant difference in the lives of children by encouraging their dreams.
