The Office for Teaching and Learning has professional learning embedded throughout our core beliefs and values. While the core of professional learning in QCSD empowers each professional to seek out the right type of learning for themselves, we do offer several forms of professional learning throughout the year.
Job Embedded Coaching
The OTL utilizes a K-12 Instructional Coaching Model in which teachers can utilize district level and building based (at the elementary level) coaches for cycles of inquiry around practices. Additionally, district level supervisors and building principals operate from a coaching mindset and frequently engage in similar cycles of inquiry and QLR's (Quality Lesson Review's) with teachers.
Professional Development Choice Cohorts and Focused Collaboration:
Three times a year on "curricuum days" dependent on where a teacher falls in the curriculum cycle, teachers choose between a number of full year cohorts that explore topics such as formative assessment, soft skills, and effectively using classroom data, etc. Additionally, teachers are using this time to collaborate with course and grade level partners around curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Face to Face Professional Learning/ Workshops
Throughout the year, the Office for Teaching and Learning will run before and after school "workshop" style sessions on high impact practices. These sessions can be signed up for utilizing Frontline (formerly MyLearningPlan) and Act 48 hours are offered for attendance. Additionally, we offer trainings and workshops throughout the summer based on curricular changes or expressed needs from teachers.
Online Blended Professional Learning
The Office for Teaching and Learning has been developing online professional learning "courses" that provide a structure for educators to continue through "levels" that engage educators in inquiries, risk taking, and coaching. Opportunities are also present to present a portfolio of learning and/or lead their own cohorts based on the experiences. Educators in QCSD can access the OTL Professional Learning Hub here.
